Replacement and updating ecus and computers

When control units, also known as modules, ECUs, and controllers, are replaced, they require synchronizing, coding, or programming with the vehicle for several reasons. Primarily, this process informs the new unit of all the options and settings of the vehicle it is being installed in. For example, one option could be left-hand or right-hand drive, but there is a vast array of settings that need to be correct for the car to function properly. The extent and type of programming vary with the manufacturer, model, and age of the vehicle. Additionally, some units can only be used once, as the vehicle identification number is locked in during programming, preventing the unit from being used in another vehicle.

We offer a comprehensive service for programming and coding computers, control units, and ECUs. We have access to the same tools that the main dealers use, allowing us to provide the same level of programming and customisation. Our services include bug fixes, enhancements, security patches, and troubleshooting, alongside electrical diagnostic car repairs.

Generally, we do not supply or fit used or green electronic components due to the guarantee period. Replacement electrical items of the same age can break down or fail in the same way as the original, for which we will not be held responsible. However, we are open to discussing the fitting of customer-supplied used components, as sometimes it can be impossible to buy new ones due to availability and age. Agreements must be made before any remedial work commences.

Immobilisers and security

All vehicles have integrated security systems, which most garages cannot access and repair due to the need for manufacturer systems and security authorization. Our qualified, registered technicians have passed security checks and have the equipment to perform full security and immobilizer system repairs and service. We can supply and fit new manufacturer-supplied keys and security-related components, which are common on most modern cars. After replacing engine computers and similar electronic units inside the vehicle, they will need to be assigned and locked to the vehicle digitally, a process for which we have full access to complete these types of repairs.
